VIRTUOZNO UPRIZORENJE SLAVNE IGRE O ČEKANJU Klasika 20. stoljeća, Čekajući Godota nobelovca Samuela Becketta (1906 - 1989), doživjela je pregršt vrlo oprečnih interpretacija već nakon svjetske praizvedbe u Parizu 1953. godine. Sam autor nerado je govorio o vlastitom djelu. Zapitan u intervjuu "tko ili što je Godot" odgovorio je: "Da sam to znao, svako bih to napisao u komadu." Zato je lako moguće da su bolje razumijevanje Godota, i od interpreta i od kritičara, ostvarili obitavatelji San Quentina, američkog zatvora u kojemu je Godot prikazan 1957. Njima zacijelo nije bilo teško razumjeti ni Vladimira ni Estragona, kao ni njihovu unutrašnju bespomoćnost koja im ne dopušta da odustanu ili prestanu čekati. Još manje su im mogla biti strana neprestana popunjavanja praznine smiješnim ritualnim igricama ili uzaludna prebiranja po uspomenama koje neumoljivo blijede. Što im preostaje nego da se nadaju da će Godot doći, da će ih osloboditi i da će biti spašeni.

VITO TAUFER Među režijama koje je ostvario za PDG Nova Gorica, Vito Taufer je već imao velikog uspjeha s Beckettovim komadom Endgame, koja je kao i Godot osvojila nekoliko nagrada i bila najboljom predstavom Borštnikovih susreta 1999. Ovaj put, Taufer svoje junake smješta u mediteransko podneblje i daje im da govore tršćanskim dijalektom. Promatrat ćemo ih kako u svojoj klasičnoj burlesknosti grozničavo pokušavaju svome čekanju prikrpiti bilo kakav smisao. Čak i ako im to ne pođe za rukom, redatelj Vam svejedno jamči dobro provedene trenutke, a tražite li dodatna jamstva to su svakako glumci u ovoj predstavi: Iztok Mlakar, Radoš Bolčina, Ivo Barišič i Primož Pirnat. Naime, ako se u nečemu slažu kritički osvrti na ovu predstavu, onda su to prije svega pohvale redateljskoj invenciji i izvanrednom izboru glumaca.

THE PLAY ON WAITING WE'RE ALL WAITING FOR A 20th century classic, Waiting for Godot by the Nobel prize winner Samuel Beckett (1906 - 1989) elicited an avalanche of contrasting interpretations immediately after the world premiere in Paris in 1953. The author himself preferred to avoid interpreting his work; when asked in an interview who and what Godot was, he replied: "Had I known, I would have said so in the play."
It is quite possible that the deepest understanding of the play came not from the critics and interpreters, but from the inmates serving life at San Quentin, the American prison, who saw it in 1957 - it can't have been too difficult for them to understand Vladimir and Estragon, their entertaining powerlessness to leave or stop waiting, filling the void with funny ritual games, incessantly fading memories, one thousand and one way to pass the time. Their hope - for what else do they have - that Godot will come, that they will be free, that they will find salvation.
VITO TAUFER the director, among the performances he directed for PDG was also the extremely successful performance of Beckett's Endgame (which received several awards, and was also the best performance at the 1999 Borštnikovo Meeting) - will put the play into the Mediterranean milieu (the main protagonists will speak in Triestine-Carst dialect, the first night at the PPF will be at the salterns), where we can observe the classic burlesque couple at their absurd tragicomical striving to give waiting for Godot some sense. And even if they don't succeed, the director promises everyone will have a good time. A guarantee for that? Seasoned comedians Iztok Mlakar, Radoš Bolčina, Ivo Barišič and Primož Pirnat.
