great Russian composer, Dmitri Shostakovich, was profoundly influenced by
American jazz and these suites along with the distinctly American
contemporary ballet choreography explore this unique combination of
cultures.

TRUPE I ŠKOLE GRAND RAPIDS
BALETA
Uzdizanje ljudskog duha kroz umjetnost plesa glavno je
poslanje kroz cjelokupno razdoblje postojanja GRBC-a osnovanog 1971.
godine. Oni su
ponosni dobitnici nagrade michiganskog guvernera za doprinose u službi
umjetnosti. Jedini se michiganski profesionalni baletni ansambl koji ima
bogatu prošlost ispunjenu neprestanim napredovanjem i usavršavanjem i koji ima snažnu potporu društvene zajednice
u kojoj djeluje.
Postavljanje 1998. godine umjetničkog ravnatelja Gordona Peircea Schmidta
na čelo trupe, obilježeno je snažnim stvaralačkim uzletom i
realizacijom više od četrdseset koreografija. Sezona GBRC-a uključuje
realizaciju tri velike predstave na glavnoj pozornici, tri serije
"plesačkih teatarskih produkcija" te veći broj dobrotvornih
izvedbi, koje s turnejama čine više od 55 predstava u sezoni.
Škola GRBC-a obrazovni je izdanak ove jedine profesionalne michiganske
baletne trupe, čiji je cilj da pruži najviši standard plesnih tehnika
te prigoda ambicioznijim studentima za profesionalnu karijeru. Ujedno, i
ne manje važno, škola pruža značajno životno iskustvo i svim ostalim
studentima.
Kao službena GRBC škola, ova ustanova ne samo da pruža ono najbolje što
profesionalni ples može, nego ujedno školuje i vrhunske plesače za sam
GRBC i druge profesionalne trupe. Tako studenti GRBC-a dobivaju angažmane
u trupama poput New York City Ballet, Joffrey Ballet,
American Ballet Theatre, Pacific Northwest Ballet, San Francisco Ballet,
Ballet West, Boston Ballet, Dayton Ballet i drugih.

The Grand Rapids
Ballet, originally
established in 1971, has grown to become the only professional classically-based
ballet company in the state of Michigan. GRBC
was
formed under founding Artistic Director Sally Seven. In its first decade,
the company grew in size and artistic quality. In 1983, the Grand Rapids
Civic Ballet merged with the Summerfest School of Grand Rapids, a
conservatory school for development of professional dancers, and
subsequently, was reorganized to form the Grand Rapid Ballet (GRB) along
with its education arm, The School of the Grand Rapids Ballet. Guided by a commitment
to its mission "lifting the human spirit through the art of dance,"
the Grand Rapids Ballet has fostered rich traditions of providing
excellent dance education and presenting the finest in dance performances.
Many of its former students have moved on to excel with major ballet
companies around the county. Many current professional dancers come to
Grand Rapids Ballet after training and performing with many of the
nation's most prestigious dance companies.
